There’s a lady in the waiting room
Who doesn’t have a bed
We hope to get her done today
That’s why she’s not been fed
But every time I see a chance
A slot to fit her in
Someone else just jumps the queue
Today I’m firefighting
There’s a lady in the waiting room
The cleaner comes to say
I know we’re trying to get her in
Hopefully today
Some staff are getting cross with me
They say I look for trouble
But if we put things off today
Tomorrow’s work will double
There’s a lady in the waiting room
A passing porter tells me
I know, we’ve not forgotten her
Just had another emergency
It’s nearly 5 o’clock
And now the theatre staff are warning
If we don’t get her in here soon
She’ll have to wait ‘til morning
There’s a lady in the waiting room
The ward clerk now reports
I’m running out of patience
I could do with some support
And finally I see a chance
The theatre now is free
A midwife too available
There’s nothing stopping me
For me was it worth all that stress
To make one family happy?
The staff are really pissed off now
And Some of them are snappy
Sometimes I wonder why I try
To go the extra mile
She’s got her baby safely now
At least I got a smile
